Those of us who went to Lee Abbey were very moved by a short service of silence and reflection interspersed with music and scripture and resolved to 'bring it back home' with us. So we have put this together and and on Saturday 25 July we will have:

Walks to Birchwood churchfrom various points in the benefice - details later. A gentle amble rather than a route march.

Tea at The Old Forge, Birchwood (by the gate to the church), courtesy of Rosemary and Richard Ward Smith, from 4pm.

Christ in Quiet at 5pm - a time together in the presence of God.

You are welcome to come to any or all of these parts of our afternoon together.

Youth Worker PDF Print E-mail

Cheryl GovierHi!

I'm Cheryl Govier and I have recently been appointed as your youth worker!

I was brought up in mid Devon, in a little village called East Worlington about 20 minutes from Tiverton. My parents are farmers and I have a younger brother who is just about to graduate (we hope!!) from Harper Adams University as a Land Agent.

For the past 12 years I have attended Hele Lane Methodist church in Black Dog (mid Devon).

In 2001 I went to the University of Gloucestershire and graduated with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, which will warn you that I am a bit of a sport fanatic! I am a keen hockey player, but enthusiastically participate in any sport I can! After graduating I had a gap year in which I travelled with a friend for 4 months in Australia and New Zealand, finishing the trip off with a visit to New York. I have since qualified as a PE Teacher, however have decided that it is not the career for me.

I became a Christian when I was about 7 or 8, and despite the many challenges and obstacles I have come up against in life I know it was the best decision I ever made. God never promised an easy ride, but I know he promises a safe arrival if I fulfil his will and make him the centre of my life. I am really excited about coming to work with you in the Blackdowns and pray I can have a positive impact. I look forward to meeting and working with you in the near future.

Peter’s Progress in the Blackdown Hills PDF Print E-mail

Bishop Peter Price, the Bishop of Bath and Wells, plans to walk part of the bounds of the Diocese in the Blackdown Hills on Thursday11th June 2009.

He sees this as a pilgrimage to the people and places in his care as Bishop, and as part of the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the foundation of the Diocese. The Children's Society is the Anniversary Partner.

The plan for the day is to meet at 8.45 am at the Merry Harriers at Forches Corner, and to walk from there, via Burnworthy, to Churchstanton Church.

Bishop Peter will lead that part of the walk.

Then from Churchstanton Church to Bishopswood Village Hall, the walk will be led by Mrs Jane Tibbs, the Diocesan Children's Adviser.
It is hoped to leave Churchstanton Church at about 10.20am, passing by Otterford Church between 1.00pm and 1.20pm, and Birchwood Church between 1.45 and 2.05pm.

It is planned that refreshments will be available at the Merry Harriers between 8.45 and 9am, at Jacqui Rees's Deli, Higher Munty, between 10.50 and 11.20am, at the York Inn, Churchinford between 11.45am and 12.15 pm, and hopefully at Bishopswood on arrival there.
The idea is to "walk and talk" with as many local people , including children, as possible along the way, and to hear the church bells of Angersleigh, Churchstanton and Buckland St. Mary ringing to celebrate the occasion.

Would those wanting to join in please inform me so that approximate numbers may be known.

The Blackdown Benefice is made up of six churches serving the five parishes of Buckland St Mary, Churchstanton, Corfe, Otterford and Pitminster, in the boundaries of the Blackdown Hills AONB.

You can find your way around our website using the menu at the top or you can go straight to the individual parish pages by clicking on the parish name below.
