In a global context St. Peter and St. Paul, Churchstanton, would be considered of very little, if any, importance but it epitomises the deeply felt emotions of a small group of bell ringers in Somerset.
Members from Corfe joined with Churchstanton to remember all those who have died both defending this beautiful country of ours as well as in the service of the Queen.
With muffled bells, ringing commenced at 10.30 finishing with the tolling of the tenor before the two minute silence. There then commenced prayers led by Geoffrey Berry who then read out the names of the fallen within the parish starting with 1854, the Crimean War. Also remembered were those killed and injured during the present conflicts as well as their families and friends, that they may find solace and peace during these turbulent times. |

This is an appeal for someone who might have a little time to spare, to come forward to take over the as PCC Secretary.
The task is not an onerous one - only four or five meetings each year - and mainly consists of keeping the minutes from meetings and compiling the agendas for such meetings.
The current holder of the post has simply ‘taken too much work on' and this little job has become her own personal ‘camel's straw'. If you can help, or know of someone else who could help, please tell David Dobinson, Shirley Hooper, Alice Hodges, or me (Barbara Simpson).
It is not necessary for the holder of this post to be a churchgoer; it is a voluntary job, although out of pocket expenses are paid.
Thank you in anticipation!
Barbara Simpson (current) Secretary to Churchstanton Parochial Church Council |

This is the fifth Year that Rosie and her Mum Sandra have taken part. Previously they rode on a tandem, but this time Rosie cycled on her own bike covering 17 miles and visiting 17 religious buildings in the Wells area.

The clappers have now been replaced and work is progressing with the general maintenance involving painting the bell frame. A big thank must go to all those who have given generously to ensure the continued ringing of these beautiful bells.
On Thursday 23rd July, Churchstanton was delighted to receive a visit from a mixed team of ringers and a special welcome was extended to Pearl Jeanes, Joint Taunton Branch Secretary, who directed operations from her wheelchair having broken both legs in a fall. All were in agreement that the bells had been vastly improved by the work.
On Saturday, 25th July a team of Churchstanton bell ringers joined with ringers from Trull and Corfe to ring at the Angersleigh Church Fair. Bells are an integral part of village church life and all were delighted to be able to contribute to the festivities of St. Michael and All Angels. |
